If there's one thing I've learned about raising children it's this simple truth: They make me laugh!
And cry...but that's another post.
The other day Rebekah was sitting down on the kitchen floor talking to me. Out of nowhere she exclaims she wishes she had the power to be invisible! "Oh, the super power to be invisible, why would you want that power?" I asked. To which Rebekah cleverly responded, "Because then [slight dramatic pause]
I would trip people."
It goes on...she started naming all the people she would trip, first on her list were Emma (older sister) and Aaron (older brother), then I asked her if she would trip Grandma? And she said, "No. But I would trip Indy (her aunt's dog).
Aaron has a crush in his class that also likes him back. I figured she must like him back because of all the kissing they've been doing on the playground. Always a proud day as a mother when the teacher tells you your little second grader could moonlight as Don Juan. Anyway, Aaron told me the other day when he and this particular little girl are chatting too much in class, his teacher says, "Aaron, Aubry! Stop planning your wedding and pay attention." So funny. I wonder if he knew that I knew about all the smooching?!
This one makes me laugh so hard I want to cry. Moriah has a very bad habit of falling asleep right before dinner time! And sometimes she wakes up later that evening crying for nourishment, usually in the form of applesauce, bread, milk..."will someone get the kid a Happy Meal!" - (not everyone will get that reference)*
But sometimes she sleeps on and on right through dinner and we end up just putting her in her bed for the night. The other day I had made some hard boiled eggs, she loves these! I put the extra ones, unshelled back in the fridge. This also happened to be one of those days that Mo slept through dinner. Well, the next morning when I was waking up the girls for breakfast I noticed that their room really smelled funky...like eggs! Come to find out, Mo had woke up in the middle of the night looking for a midnight snack. Well, she found one and she ate right through the shell to get to that proteiny goodness inside. There were pieces of egg all over her bed, hence the eggy smell. Wow! I have nothing more to say, plus I'm laughing too hard to type anymore.....
*It's from Big Daddy, it's hilarious.
Here are the stories of our lives...at least the ones I'm telling.

We Did It!
A few weeks ago we finished reading the Book of Mormon. It took us about 2 years but we finally did it! Would you like to know how we did it? Here's our method:
1. Persistence! The first year was spent just trying to get into a good routine, making it a daily habit. And when we did get sidetracked we just picked up where we left off (with a good refresher of what we had been reading about). We didn't quit or start over if we missed a week or even a month. We simply tried harder the next day and the next day until it really became a family ritual at bedtime. Eventually it became a habit and the kids would remind us if we forgot. Thanks kids!
2. Stop to Reflect - this was a key step in teaching our children. When we came to a passage that was difficult to understand we clarified the subject matter. When we came to a story that taught a valuable gospel principle we stopped and talked about it...which prompted many spititual discussions with the kids. (Funny how the scriptures do that, huh?)
3. The Mo Factor - we learned to read over her "toddler noises" and when it became too much, we allowed her to watch a show downstairs while we read upstairs. Sometimes that was necessary with our particular 2 year old.
4. Wiggles & Giggles - reading the scriptures with 4 children under the age of 10 is not for the faint of heart. There were so many times we had to stop to discipline the kids. And most of the time our scripture reading sounded more like this: "Sit up! Stop talking! Don't play with that toy right now! Pay attention!" inbetween each verse. In fact I don't think there was ever a single night that we didn't use at least one of those phrases. And when the kids were really wound up we felt like quitting, but we didn't, it was tempting however. Some nights I felt like there was no way we were ever going to feel the Spirit while reading the Book of Mormon...yelling at the kids tends to drive the Spirit away. But we knew this wouldn't be easy and we referred back to #1 quite a bit.
I have to say reading the Book of Mormon or any scripture with young children can be a real challenge. And at the end I didn't experience the wave of euphoria I thought would wash over me. As I look back on our experience I realize it wasn't the fact that we finished but that we took the journey together. Part of me expected the children to tear up, bearing undeniable testimony that what we had just read was true and had changed their young life forever. And then thank us as parents for our endurance and patience in reading the Book of Mormon with them. Okay, I know that was a lot to wish for and maybe someday they will do that, but not any time soon. Our children groaned and complained while endlessly shifting in their seats as we read. A few times they even passed out while we were reading, and I know more often than not their little minds were wandering. But that's okay, because of what I said before. It was the journey, not the destination that will make a difference in our family's life. I love the Book of Mormon and the lessons taught within it's pages. And I am so grateful to have experienced that with the people I love the most. And along the way I have watched their testimonies grow as they understand God's love for us - His work and His glory.
We'll definitely read it again together. For now, we're on to the New Testament!

Lettuce buck teeth and carrot fangs.
Thirsty Daddy?

A Bear-y Good Time
It's a terrible title but I just had to use it, you'll see why.
Our Summer Vacation
We returned to Bear World for our summer trip this year. The last time we visited this family fave was in conjuction with our Yellowstone excursion - Emma was 5, Aaron was 3, Bekah was 18 mo. and Mo was watching from above waiting to join in all the fun. Now that she's here, it was time to take 'em back. Bekah didn't remember anything, (not that I expected her to), but Emma and Aaron remembered their first trip and it's such a fun place to visit this will definitely not be our last.
When Mo's old enough to remember we'll come back again!
Pictures from the curator tour
(you ride on a tall truck and feed the bears),
the awesome petting zoo, the drive thru animal enclosure, and of course...the rides:
(Whenever my sister and I take a trip we always have a
catch phrase that dominates the trip,
it's usually a line from a movie we both like.)
The catch phrase for this trip was provided by Mo. On many occasion you could hear her say or yell
(depending on her mood),
"I WANT TO GO HOME!" Here's a visual:
How can the same baby look this sweet and innocent? Precious isn't she? It's truly her saving grace.
Because she likes to scream...a lot.
We found this fun photo opp on the way to Bear World.
Who knew Idaho had giant pop cans just sitting out
there among all the potatoes!
The pictures are out of order because we actually started our trip with our annual visit to BEAR Lake with Mike's family.
She may have wanted to go home, but I caught a smile here and there. I think all in all she had a pretty good time...
a bear-y good time.
1st Grade Program
Aaron's 1st grade program was lessons & morals learned from Disney songs. They put on a great presentation.
But the best part was the "Ducks Dance Too" song!
It was hilarious! Good job Aaron.
